Singapore Vikings Social

It’s much more than football…

Life off the pitch at Singapore Vikings

At Singapore Vikings, football is just the beginning. Our vibrant community thrives on a series of social gatherings and traditions that bring together players, families, and friends throughout the year. Here’s a peek into some of our most cherished events:

gala party

Seasonal Kick-off Gala Party

To mark the start of every season, we host a gala dinner party, inviting all players along with their partners—be it wives, girlfriends, or even Tinder +1s! The evening features delicious food, heartfelt speeches from our coaches, and the annual awards ceremony, where we honor the Best Player, Rookie of the Year, and present the Dr. Frandsen Trophy for outstanding contributions to the Vikings.

Annual Viking Cup

Annual Viking Cup

Every Easter, Viking clubs from across Asia come together for the Annual Viking Cup, one of the largest amateur tournaments in the region with over 300 participants. The Singapore Vikings proudly field the largest delegation, often participating with multiple 11-a-side teams and a vets 7-a-side team.

This family-friendly event is more than just football; it’s a celebration of Viking spirit, and many of our players keep coming back year after year. Our club talisman, Rene Frandsen, has attended nearly every Viking Cup since it began in the 90s, with over 30 appearances under his belt.

Helping out in the community

During COVID,

The Singapore Vikings Football Club held a charity run to support migrant workers in Singapore, aiming to cover 1,000 kilometers collectively. One Viking went above and beyond, completing a double marathon over the weekend. The team’s efforts exceeded expectations, raising over $40,000, doubling their initial goal of $20,000.

This event showcased the Vikings’ dedication to making a positive impact through their passion for running and supporting the community.

After-Football Drinks and Premier League Nights

Most of our games are played on weekends, often on Saturday afternoons, which naturally leads into post-game drinks. Whether celebrating a win or regrouping after a loss, you’ll find us at Charlie’s Pub in Boat Quay, enjoying a beer and catching the evening Premier League matches. These weekly gatherings have become a cornerstone of our social life, keeping the Viking spirit alive both on and off the field.

Annual Xmas Party

Held at the Danish Seamen’s Church, our Annual Xmas Party is a festive celebration of Danish traditions. We gather for a classic Danish Christmas lunch, complete with Xmas beer and the infamous snaps aquavit. As is custom, this event also kicks off the tryouts for the beer drinking competition at the Viking Cup, led by our beer captain, Mathias Berthelsen. The Xmas party, always held in early December, sets the tone for the holiday season before everyone heads home for the break.

Hello Exchange Students and Sambucca Challenge

We love welcoming exchange students to the Singapore Vikings family. Twice a year, students from Danish universities join us to experience the Viking spirit in Singapore. One of our standout traditions is the Sambucca Challenge—a fun-filled night where new and old members alike showcase their team spirit and camaraderie in the bar.
