Viking outing

February 5, 2025

This weekend, our four teams gathered for an internal competition and night out at our local Viking Bar, Charlie’s, welcoming new Vikings and introducing them to our traditions.

Internal Vikings 6 a side competition at Shelton College

The Vikings Football Club hosted an intense internal 6-a-side competition, featuring over 35 players ranging from teenagers to 60+. The tournament showcased skill, passion, and fierce camaraderie across all age groups. After a series of hard-fought matches, Team Blue emerged victorious, clinching the win dramatically through penalty shootouts against Team White and Team Black.

The competition highlighted the club’s vibrant spirit, blending youthful energy with veteran experience. It was a memorable event that celebrated both the love of football and the strong community within the Vikings.

Beer Competition Tryouts and the notorious Sambucca Challenge

Beer Competition Tryouts

Every year, the Vikings compete in beer drinking contests at the annual Viking Cup, with Beer Coach Thiesen always on the lookout for fresh talent. This night did not disappoint. Among the participants, a young lad named Henry stole the spotlight, downing his beer in record time and leaving everyone around him in awe. His impressive performance caught Coach Thiesen’s attention, marking him as a promising contender for the upcoming Viking Cup. It was a night of unexpected discoveries, proving that Viking spirit isn’t just shown on the pitch but in the pint as well.

What is the Sambuca Challenge?

The Sambuca Challenge is a true test of Viking spirit, where teams of four compete to down an entire bottle of Sambuca as quickly as possible. Each team member takes turns doing shots until the bottle is empty, requiring both speed and endurance.

The highlight of the night saw three teams battling it out—two teams of new students and the well-known Sunday Bois. In a surprising twist, one student team set a new record with a lightning-fast time of 2 minutes and 11 seconds, followed by the second student team. The Sunday Bois, however, faced disappointment, getting disqualified after 4 minutes for taking too long. A fantastic night with unexpected champions!
